Autumn in Ustate NY by R Gary Butler, PPSA

October 2026 - Autumn in Ustate NY

About the Image(s)

Fall means harvest and in upstate NY that means grapes and apples. Each year on the last weekend of September Naples NY holds therir Grape Festival. It is a great time to drive the Corvette with the top off about 60 miles each way. This year where we stop for our Grape pie I noticed these gourds and squash in the bins. I loved the image so I used my iPhone 17 pro to create a hi-res image. I did the usual processing in LR Classic, Topaz Studio and Color Efex.

Lots of colors and textures and good prices. Sharp from front to back, the brightness is appropriate. The colors pop - a fun image for this time of year. It makes one feel happy.

I didn't know you had a Corvette, I have been watching Route 66 on Tubi recently and of course they traveled around in a Corvette. What color is yours? I have a friend whose husband bought an orange one a couple of years ago.   Posted: 10/03/2026 18:27:47

Vella, this is our second Corvette. The first was a 2001 silver convertible. In 2016 I spec out a new C7 Corvette. It is white with black carbon fiber insert on the hood and a black carbon fiber removable roof. It is a Z 51 with 462 hp and a standard transmission. It is an absolute pleasure to drive. Thanks for asking.   Posted: 10/03/2026 20:15:12

Gary, great variety of gourds, pumpkins and squashes. Very colorful, sharp and nicely filling the lower 2/3rds of the frame. I am wondering if it would look better cropping the top 1/3 with the fence and price tags ?   Posted: 10/03/2026 19:20:25

Isaac, that is a question that I've been considering. If I had the patience, I would also manually extend the fence to the top of the image. I've played around with it quite a bit. Hope your family is doing well.   Posted: 10/03/2026 20:16:01

I see a lot of interesting shapes, colors and textures where my eyes wander around. Then my eyes rest on the one gourd in the upper left corner. Out of all the other ones, this one stands out and says, "look, I'm different.   Posted: 10/05/2026 03:22:33

Hi Gary
shapes and colours wonderful, and the varying sizes and shapes along with hap hazard stacking remove all uniformity and make this so work, your colour saturation is spot on,I also wondered if a pano/letterbox crop just below the signs would strengthen the picture even more, great spot and a wonderful riot of colour.   Posted: 10/05/2026 11:27:41

It's that time of year again but it is not a good year for pumpkins etc because we have had too much dry weather. Lovely colourful image with lots to look at. I suggest a small crop at the top, just down to the top of the wire fence.   Posted: 10/07/2026 16:48:10
