Terminus by Guy Davies, EPSA

August 2026 - Terminus

About the Image(s)

This is the same location as last month - City of Durham in northern England.
I liked the bright red of the boat as a contrast against the green of the trees. I was also amused by the small weir in the foreground which showed that the boat could go no further - hence the title 'Terminus'. Taken in July 2016 on my old Nikon D7100 using the Nikkor 18-200 zoom at 82 mm. Exposure was 1/10 at f/14 with 320 ISO. Back home I took it into ON1 RAW and did the usual noise reduction, and then I made some minor changes to Temperature and Vibrance before cropping to put the boat on the right hand third, and to crop out the sky.

Guy, this is really a peaceful image with pastel colors, great composition with the bridge framing the boat, and complemented by the reflection in the water. I see two objects? people?? on top of the bridge, and if that is the case they give scale to the image. Image is sharp with good DOF.   Posted: 08/04/2026 14:44:24

Kai, thanks for explaining the title. It makes a lot of sense. That was the first thing I saw when I looked at this image - where is this guy gonna go? I like the balance in the image from the arches over the boat to the surrounding foliage. I think you did an excellent job in post processing of choosing the right brightness and saturation to make the image look realistic. Probably not a winner, but a very pleasing image.   Posted: 08/05/2026 21:08:20

Hi Guy
I so love the contrast of the top 90% of the image pure peace, serenity and calmness the bottom 10% the total opposite the fast free fast flowing hurly burly of the weir.
So beautifully composed the colours of the bridge and foliage so compliment one another superb photo travel image.
