About the Image(s)

Our camera club went to the Howell Balloon Festival on Saturday, June 27, 2026. As I sat watching the activity on the field of hot air balloons I was attracted to this umbrella and the colors and composition. I have become keenly aware of composition lately because I have another book in the works. The book is titled, Composition My Way. It's based on fifty years plus in photography and is presented in four voices as a Photographer, a Teacher, a Judge and as a viewer.

This image was captured with my Canon R7, Aperture priority, f8, and Auto ISO. I used my Tamron 18-400 zoom lens. I had to use AI to fill the small corner in the upper right corner.

Hi Bill
Well seen and well presented the support pole is a great leading line and frame gives a circle within a square frame, the colours are beautifully handled and not over saturated great idea.
I did something similar a few years ago when I came across a bicycle propped up against a wall covered with street art.   Posted: 07/05/2026 11:52:11

Bill, first of all I want to commend you for your secret of becoming young again in every sense of the word. I like very much the angle you selected to photograph the umbrella, and the composition of course. Just for the heck of being picky, did you consider bringing the umbrella's stem up starting at the lower left (my left) corner of the frame ? This way both light blue triangles would occupy the corners... Also interesting as how the circular support of the umbrella is framed.   Posted: 07/06/2026 17:00:45

Strong colors, sharp and love the geometric figures presented by the frame of the umbrella. The slanted angle adds to the interest as well as the irregular shape of the shadow circle. We should all take note of noticing how interesting the world can be by just looking as you have.   Posted: 07/06/2026 18:22:55

Bill, I like the picture of you for July 4. You're looking younger every year! I like the colors in the image and the way you've positioned them with the lines of the supports. Exceptional composition. Have you looked at it in Monochrome? seems to me that it might also make a good image in black-and-white.

I'm hoping that you'll be at the festival this year. I haven't forgotten that. I still owe you a bourbon. Looking forward to sharing one with you.   Posted: 07/11/2026 13:41:41

The multi colors immediately captured my attention. So many leading lines and angles. You are still a force Bill.   Posted: 07/12/2026 01:40:47
