About the Image(s)

One must-see stop on our tour of Ireland in the fall was Kilkenny. The Butlers (my richer relatives) lived in Kilkenny castle from 1391 til 1967. The castle at that time was in disrepair and the upkeep costs were too large. The castle was sold to the government for a very nominal fee. It has since been largely restored and is a treat to explore.

The Portrait gallery is the top floor on the ride hand side in the Original. These images were taken with my Canon R5 and my 16-35mm EF lens. They were processed in LRC including the removal of people from both. In PS I did extensive work cleaning up the exterior of the castle on the left hand side.

We have this enlarged in our Florida home. My wife tells everyone that she downsized because she got tired of doing the windows!!

Bruce, congratulations for your aristocratic royal title. The castle is of good size indeed. You captured the Hall of Portraits in a very symmetric fashion once again. The presence of the man sitting in the lower third adds scale to the image. The image is sharp.   Posted: 04/02/2026 19:05:17

What a lovely story. Is there a coat of arms? How nice that the government was able to restore it. The room is beautiful. The symmetry and colors is very good. I also notice the tapestries on the left. The exposure is good.   Posted: 04/02/2026 21:26:55

Hi Gary
Do we have to refer to you as Lord Butler of Kilkenny now ?
I love the contrast between the wonderful warm tones and the cooler tones of the glass roof panels.
The people in the image show the grand scale of the gallery, love the composition as it allows the eye to travel through the image with plenty of detail to look at and enjoy.
Wonderful photo travel image.
