About the Image(s)

Over about the the last 12 years I have got to know and become a good friend of a top Liverpool photographer Terry Donnelly Terry is European Ambassador for Sony,Ambassador for Fotospeed and master of light for Rotorlight,he covers all Liverpool Football clubs home games for various press agencies and is an official photographer for the Rugby League,he is very humble and always willing to share his knowledge with others quite happily and freely.
In 2018 Terry invited me to join him at a photo shoot he was doing at the old Newsham hospital in Liverpool, the hospital was closed in 1998 but is used a lot for film and T.V. work especially horror movies,he told me not to bring my camera as he would supply me with a Sony for the day, what he did not tell me was it was not one of his usual one man set up shoots he was working with Sony,Fotospeed and Rotorlight on the day with a top model from London,I had a team from Sony asking what body and lens I wanted for each shoot and just handed the camera, a Sony technician with me at all times if I required a lens changed the images were going straight to Fotospeed who printed them out as we shot and Rotorlight technicians were moving the lights between shoots and setting the lights under Terrys instructions I felt truly priviledged to have been let in on this.

I have posted a similar shot to this in the past but with a different colour filter on the smoke I have just re visited some of the hundreds of images I shot on the day and edited this.
Terry asked me to take a photo of him and the model so that is included.

How I did it

Camera Sony ILCE-7RM3, lens Sony FE 85mm F1.4 GM, f1.4,100s,ISO 100 focal length 85mm very little editing required a touch of localised burning and sharpened using a high pass filter.

Ian, what an experience you must have had, like the Rich and Famous indeed. Great image. Great illumination and colors. Sharp. I love the face expression of the model, which in real life is very beautiful. The Photographer looks very friendly.   Posted: 04/02/2026 19:17:39

What a fun day that must have been. The eyes are perfectly shot and the whites stand out. The baby doll even looks creepy. The green smoke makes a great background.   Posted: 04/02/2026 22:51:59

Most makeup artists and photographers will work with their model to make them look better for the image. This is quite the opposite. They took a pretty young lady and made her look absolutely gruesome. Add the baby to the image and the story gets even more macabre. The image is sharp and colorful. The subject certainly stands out well from the background chosen. Hope I don't dream about this tonight!   Posted: 04/03/2026 17:10:13

It's wonderful how many photo friendships many of us have made through the years, Ian. Photography is a life-stream for dedicated photogs and a blessing for the majority of our subjects. You have handled that portion of our avocation with kindness and professionalism, and it's has paid off big-time for you my friend, congrats. Your image is stunning, capturing your subject in dramatic fashion. The doll and added facial features of the young lady creates strong Impact.   Posted: 04/10/2026 02:29:48
