Lower Dam in Lymm by Ian Chantler

July 2025 - Lower Dam in Lymm

About the Image(s)

I was going to post a picture of the power boat racing I covered in early June but that can wait until next month since I last posted to the group I have retired and moved to the beautiful village of Lymm in Cheshire its so idyllic so I thought I would send a picture of the lower Dam in Lymm Village centre to give you a taste of the area I am now so enjoying living in.
This picture will probably never see a competition but hopefully will give you an idea of moving from City life to the tranquility of a small English Village.

How I did it

Canon EOS 5D Mk III lens Canon EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM focal length 24mm, f6.3 1/250s ISO 100 .Basic adjustments to RAW file made in CS6 cropped all round sharpened using a high pass filter and a 2 px stroke added

Ian, you have moved into a very attractive location. Not all English villages are as nice as this! Good depth of field from front to back. I am a bit distracted by the next door house on the right. I cropped this out and cloned out a small bit of overhanging roof, and then cropped some off the top to re-balance the composition.   Posted: 07/05/2025 15:56:28

Ian, great landscape composition with foreground with the swans, midground with the water and ducks and background given by the houses. I am not sure about the crop an did, perhaps try to remove it instead, since now there is tension at that border.   Posted: 07/08/2025 23:09:12

Ian, as you have described this looks so peaceful. It seems that you are set to reap many rewards from the fruits of your work career. I agree with the distraction comments and tend towards Isaac's "removal." The foreground ducks and swan add to the image. Perhaps a shot that shows the actual dam, or a portion of it, would further add to the image. Enjoy your retirement and keep sending great. Images.   Posted: 07/14/2025 11:43:32

Had to show this one to my hubby who loves England. We watch Escape to the Country and Location Location Location almost every night and drool over some of the beautiful places and scenes. The green frames the terrace houses nicely and the presence of the ducks and swans adds to the pleasant ambiance.   Posted: 07/26/2025 20:35:31

Congratulations on your new home. I can imagine the excitement of your new surroundings. Just the name sounds so picturesque. If this is an example of your surroundings I'm looking forward to seeing more. The picture is very well composed and the waterfowl in the foreground makes it very appealing.   Posted: 07/27/2025 17:30:08
