May 2025 - Myakka Deer

About the Image(s)

How I did it??”A couple of weeks ago our group selected Myakka State Park as we haven't visited that area since the last 2 Fall storms, 2024. All areas were now open. On the downside, bird numbers are way down, however the soft morning light was beautiful, and I was able to capture this White-Tailed family portrait. Image made using my OM 1 Mark 11 with OM 100-400 mm f5-6.3 lens attached shot off hand seated on my stool. My settings were 400 ISO at f8 @ 1/640th of a second. Hopefully the nest trip there will be more productive.

Nice family scene, Erik. I like the grouping with the close contact of these deer. The one at the back (probably the male) has spotted you and is ready to warn the others if you should become a threat. Good record of their social and protective behaviour. It is a little unfortunate that the nearer adult is in shadow, but you can't choose your lighting with wildlife.   Posted: 05/02/2025 16:31:40

Erik, three is company !! I pretty much second what Ian just said. The image is sharp. That is a place I have not visited as yet.   Posted: 05/02/2025 20:21:10

Erik, for me I like the lighting in the image. I feel that it is not too harsh and you have kept the shadows of the other deer off of the faces. I really like the composition of the three together and looking in different directions. The colorful but soft background for me just adds to the image. Thanks for sharing.   Posted: 05/12/2025 19:00:45
