January 2025 - Michigan Central Skylight

About the Image(s)

Back in December of 2024 I went to the recently restored Michigan Central Station on a Friday morning. The crowds were very light and a new coffee shop had just opened. I had a cup of coffee and a donut while enjoying the beauty of the restoration. While I had my Bog Boy camera with me, I opted for my trusty iPhone 14 Pro MAX.

This is a vertical panorama captured with my iPhone. It's a fun technique if you have one. Try it in a church. Anyway, the image was transferred to Photoshop and cleaned up with a little help from Generative Fill for some objects in the foreground. My funnel step was processing it in Topaz Photo AI and adding a small edge stroke.

Bill, you know me, I am a sucker for architecture and detail. For me I really enjoy the detail you have captured in the image. The foreground sculptures, the people, the chandelier the skylight and the reflection pattern on the upper right caused by the sun all add to the interest of the image for me. AS usual the sharpness, brightness and color all add to the image.

For me, also being a fan of symmetry, I couldn't help duplicating and flipping the right half. The VF is what I got. Let me know what you think. Happy New Year!   Posted: 01/11/2025 14:15:40

Thanks Gary. That's pretty damn cool. The only thing that I would do is to copy and replace the "Winter" sign in the background to make it appear believable.
Thanks again. I may submit another vertical pano next month of a church that I recently visited.   Posted: 01/11/2025 14:35:08

Bill, impressive architectural section of the restored building. Indeed the visual effect created by the pano function on the iPhone is very striking to the eye. Of course Gary's twick's makes the image more interesting.   Posted: 01/11/2025 15:35:29

You perform some good magic with the I phone. Sharp image showing good color. Garys right side flip took your image over the top.   Posted: 01/11/2025 17:55:51

Bill, this vertical pano creates an unusual visual effect for the human brain to accommodate, and produces an interesting and eye-catching image. A horizontal pano is easy because we turn our heads left and right all the time so the brain is putting together that sort of image constantly in normal life. We do not normally scan up and down so the vertical pano stands out as something unusual. Sharp and well exposed.   Posted: 01/12/2025 17:04:53

Hi Bill
Another masterful capture of a stunning building I am so glad it was a quiet time with only a few people it lets the eye take the scale and beauty of the structure, the foreground installations give a sense of scale to the building, you and your trusty i-phone produced another memorable image.   Posted: 01/12/2025 19:13:30
