Lets Take A Nap Bighorn Sheep by Erik Rosengren, FPSA, PPSA

December 2024 - Lets Take A Nap Bighorn Sheep

About the Image(s)

How I did it-After our last Conference in Yellowstone, a friend and I left additional time to do some additional shooting in the Tetons and the Jackson Hole area. As luck would have it, Chuck and I ran into about 15 Bighorn Sheep North of Jackson. We spent an hour + filming while they were enjoying the Sunny morning and filling their bellies. My tools for the day: Canon 7D, 1to 400 lens + the 500mm f 4. My settings were 200 ISO, f 5.6 @ 800th of a second. Even though there is a slight merge, I’m pleased with the image story, looking forward to your comments.

Erik, indeed they are communicating. Let's take a nap sound's good given the weather and after a good meal. Image is sharp. The snow complements very nicely the image. It is not a staged image, therefore the overlapping is not a problem, however; picky judges may think otherwise.
If you visit group 72, you will see additional images of animal interaction.   Posted: 12/05/2024 16:04:10

Erik, I like the story line. They are definitely communicating something. For me it is also interesting to note how closely the winter coloring of the sheep matches the color of the background brush. Nature has a way of providing protection. I feel that you have well captured the image - good DoF and sharpness.   Posted: 12/05/2024 17:50:56

I am happy with the merge once I had worked out what was happening. Sharp and crisp with perfect exposure, it does tell a story of the two sheep deciding what to do next. There is good detail in the snow which is always difficult to achieve in strong sunlight.   Posted: 12/13/2024 12:45:14

Agree with other comments of sharpness, colors, and background. The eyes look sharp and shiny. It looks like the male is smiling while the female is talking. At least I think that are there genders. Nice light on the fur.   Posted: 12/13/2024 22:24:35

Hi Er[k
Wonderful tones and textures on the animals fur so add to the detail, the merge does not worry me one little bit in fact for me it adds strength to the interaction between the animals. The snow really makes the animals stand out and you have achieved wonderful seperation from the background.
For me its a printer.
Very very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year to you and Betty Sue.   Posted: 12/17/2024 19:06:01
