About the Image(s)
How I Did It
Canon 7DII Canon 100-400II ISO 800 400MM 1/1600 F/5.6
From the Pantanal in Brazil
Taken at dawn. They are a favorite meal for the jaguars that live there. With excellent hearing, there is always one or more on watch duty. They are excellent swimmers and will swim to the middle of the river, whereas the jaguars who can swim also, will stay close to shore allowing the capybaras to escape.
Cropped and straightened the photo. In lightroom, used Lightroom’s noise reduction, did exposure adjustments, added a vignette and took it into Topaz Sharpen which I lightened the fur to my liking also.

Vella, to my eye you have done an excellent job of bringing the features of the capybaras. I do feel that the image might have more of a story if you could have left some of the distant shore in the final picture.   Posted: 11/05/2024 00:46:37

Thanks never thought of leaving the distance shore in.   Posted: 11/05/2024 03:44:57

Good sharp picture of these little animals. The light is warm and low and suits the colour of the animals. I didn't think about leaving some of the distant shore in, but I agree with Gary that it would be better.   Posted: 11/06/2024 12:41:36

The settings you chose, brought out the soft morning light and provided sharp subjects with detailed body definition. The Capybaras, being in close proximity, creates Tension. I agree with the others on leaving some of the background for strengthening the image (Sence of place). I would suggest straitening the water line and leave a little grass.   Posted: 11/11/2024 19:18:15

Hi Vella
What a wonderful nature image the early morning light has really given a wonderful glow to the animals fur which is fabulous I love the positions you have been able to capture the animals in,nice movement in the water and for me leaving in a touch of the background does not bother me in this image its all about the 3 Capybaras you were given a great opportunity and you so made the most of it.   Posted: 11/12/2024 20:45:38

Vela, the Capybaras are not only the favorite meal for the jaguars, but also are a gourmet plate for humans. I like this image very much showing the on guard attitude. I like either version with or without the shore line. The image is very sharp. In Venezuela they are called water dogs.   Posted: 11/14/2024 15:37:59
