About the Image(s)

This image is hot off the memory card. Yesterday, a small group from our Ft Myers (FL) Camera Club went to the Naples Botanical Gardens.
Water lilies are a main attraction there, and I got plenty of images of them, but this image truly took my breath away when I first noticed the lines, textures and shadows of adjacent palm fronds in the early morning light. I loved it. I knew it had to be my submission for this months discussion. Post processing was fun playing around with options for BW - or not! I ended up selecting a BW preset ("Red Filter") and cropping into a square-ish format to eliminate unnecessary elements. Your thoughts?

By coincidence I was at a local botanical garden this morning, so have a direct impression of what you saw and think it's brilliant. The fine and delicate detail on the fibrils to me makes the image and leads the eye into the origin at the top. I think a horizontal flip might be even more effective.   Posted: 10/08/2026 20:45:29

This is a strong Black and White Nature image. I like the converging lines of the leaves heading up towards the top left hand corner. Unfortunately they lead to the darkest part of the image which offers very little interest.
But that said, there is a story created by the curved "daggerlike" shadows crossing the leaves, bidding the viewer's eye to stop it's journey towards the darkness.
Fascinating image, Jim!
Well done.   Posted: 10/10/2026 02:04:31
