That's a very well posed portrait with grace and style. I agree the background helps the traditional theme but at the risk of visually competing with the girl. The three lines of the table, instrument and frame are quite strong, again competing but possibly adding to an intriguing story.   Posted: 11/11/2025 01:27:57
Very nice image, Stanley.
Like Piers pointed out, my first impression of this well posed young lady, is that the background nearly duplicated the colors of your subject's costume. Consequently, there is not enough contrast separating the two. She almost gets lost in the background.
Was the stringed instrument there only as a prop, or was it a meaningful instrument (to her) that she could play? It could be very interesting to see another image of her playing the instrument.
Thank you for the visual lesson in the Chinese culture.   Posted: 11/15/2025 19:51:14

A beautiful woman portrayed so well by the photographer. Because the background is soft, I do not think the it competes with the young lady. I do feel that the foreground, what she is leaning on, is a contrast in color tone and lines that might be improved with a something different for her to lean on--perhaps just the bench.   Posted: 11/18/2025 19:17:42
