About the Image(s)
There are so many beautiful old homes in Charleston, SC. This one was shot through the window of the tour bus with iPhone 14 Pro. Downloaded into Lightroom with my first edit removing the glare from the window, and I believe I succeeded with most of that. I also removed the sign posts and fire hydrant. Made a few minor adjustments and then brought it into OnOne to change one to black and white because I knew someone in our group would suggest that! Which do you like better?

Wow, this is a great shot! And to think it was captured with your iPhone, in a bus, through a window with a glare. Your edits are really good, but there still is a bit of glare off the left chimney. I like the color version better. These phones are getting so terrific that it's any wonder why more of us haven't switched over. I am actually on my way to Madeline Island in Lake Superior next week for an iPhone workshop. Can't wait!   Posted: 07/02/2025 21:26:47
You're so good in catching that other glare. I kept trying to get rid of it, but LR kept deleting and replacing with something else. I thought I'd get away with it.
Yes, these phones are getting so good. My body can't handle the gear of my big camera and can't justify a mirrorless. I'm thinking about dropping my phone off our deck so I can then justify the 16. What a wonderful place for a workshop. Was there SEVERAL years ago and look forward to your posting some of your work.   Posted: 07/02/2025 21:35:03

Love your image!!! don't drop your phone off the balcony!!   Posted: 07/10/2025 16:31:24
The building is interesting and quite like one in Oklahoma City called the Overholser Mansion with similar pillars and an upstairs attic. When I complained about creaking floors in the attic, the caretaker lady explained that the place was haunted - could your reflections be supernatural? The design is intriguing and the pillars on the right especially attractive, but in my opinion concealed in part by an ugly palm tree and compositionally offset by the background building. So I felt challenged to compete with OnOne and try some removals using Photoshop's AI-generated generative fill.   Posted: 07/03/2025 22:09:07
Beautifully done, though it does take away from the fact that it is in the city along with many other historic homes. Maybe I would just remove the palm tree, which helps to showcase the home.   Posted: 07/03/2025 22:19:11
Yes. I imagine that the front patio with pillars is where they would have pulled up with a horse and carriage, making a case for removing the hedge as well.   Posted: 07/04/2025 20:22:27
...and the sidewalk!   Posted: 07/04/2025 20:40:54
That's pretty cool! BTW, have no idea whose house that is. I named it Murray because it was on the corner of Murray!   Posted: 07/05/2025 20:19:28
Shirley, this is a great image as you were obviously under great time restraints and restricted to a quick image through the bus window with your phone.
You have done well in removing the reflections in the window, although there is still one up towards the top left hand corner of the image, in the sky near the left hand chimney.
Maybe a little "Dehaze" might remove the slight surreal look that the image has. But that is in the eye of the beholder.
Your final image has a slight green cast to it from the bus window. While you are in photoshop or Lightroom try adding a little Magenta to counteract this.
I am a purist and so I will not get involved in the Ai in photography discussion. *laughs*

Shirley, It's a beautiful old homes, now the mobile phone are really so good, you can shoot through the bus window to have such quality, I have to consider selling the digital camera in hand, haha!
I prefer the performance of color, monochrome usually expresses the subject matter of light and shadow better, the light in this photo is not too strong, the effects of light and shadow are not clear.

Hi Shirley.
Beautiful house! I'm not at all surprised to see that it's in Charleston, but, like Piers referenced, many towns around the country have similar scenes. The (not so perfect) palm tree gives yours some reference.
I like the color-presented image over the BW version - although there's a lot that I like about the BW. My main concern with the BW is that the brick on the Limehouse St. side of the house is excessively dark. Both versions still have teltale signs of your phone in the reflection.
As you've noted from my presented image this month, I have an occasional tendency to oversatureate my images, but I feel like your presented image could use a little vibrancy boost. Reds and greens look a bit pale.
Well done.
