About the Image(s)

I don’t do landscape often. I think my issue is that I am captivated by the beauty and expanse of a scene and therefore don’t know what to focus on. This image was taken while moving on the river cruise down the Danube. I was shooting handheld with ISO 800, 93mm, f/7.1, @ 1/800sec. Only minor adjustments in LR to shadows, whites and highlights. My question to you all is; would there have been a better composition, and how would edits make this a better image? I did use the brush tool and darken a bit of the areas already darker in the mountains, but I didn’t want to lose the mist. Any comments are appreciated.

Karen this is a lovely image. I like the way the foreground has such intense colour and the background is a muted haze.
I woould crop the left hand side so that the church spire is on the vertical "third" line and crop out some of the top so that the background hill starts in the top right hand corner of the image.   Posted: 02/06/2025 23:27:49

Agreeing with Mr. Martin, after crop the left hand side and some top background, the church spire is more prominent, and the overall line is more beautiful.   Posted: 02/07/2025 03:10:33

Karen, sometimes rules are meant to be broken. When you crop on the left, it eliminates the landscape effect and a good portion of that peninsula. I vote to keep it as is. I know you want to keep the haze in there and if you dehazed it some, you would lose the contrast with the peninsula. I would suggest playing with it some, though, and mask some areas to get more depth in the mountains and the sky. I did the river cruise 12 years ago and wish I could do it again!   Posted: 02/15/2025 18:22:35

Thanks, Shirley, for your inspiration. I did crop it as suggested by Martin, but will go back and play with it some more. I enjoyed the river cruise but I was not fond of the air travel to and from. I would love to do the Norway to England cruise but with all the unrest I plan on staying closer to home for now.   Posted: 02/17/2025 13:01:53

Very nice image, Karen.
I like the original composition. The image appears "weighted' properly right and left.
I would play around with the Dehaze slider and try to get more detail in the mountains, then separately, try to mask the Sky and try to get more detail from the otherwise bland sky.
The foreground peninsula is clear and sharp. The areas beyond are less so.   Posted: 02/18/2025 02:58:37
