About the Image(s)

> I had to dig back through my files from 2 years ago when I traveled to Antarctica. Among our stops was the Falkland Islands where we got off our ship for a few hours.
> While disembarking our ship, and having to walk the length of a long pier, we passed by this floating structure that appeared relatively permanent in it's spot. I was struck by the numerous colors of rusting paint and the lines caused by the structure, the walkways and their shadows.
> The original image (included) was cropped and numerous sliders manipulated to bring out my presented image.

Those sliders do wonders, and I like how you turned a relatively dull image to a very vibrant one. I like the small amount of blue to contrast with the oranges. My eye is drawn to the dark corner in the lower right and would suggest decreasing the shadow there just slightly. I assume that top rail is kind of the horizon line and does have a tilt to it. Easy fix. Fun shot.   Posted: 12/01/2024 19:52:27

Thanks for your wonderful comments, Shirley.
For reference, I did bring up the shadows in that lower right corner - it was darker than it is now. It now shows a bit of detail that wasn't visible originally. I stopped where I did with the slider to avoid it being too obvious.
After reading Piers comments (below) I did his suggested crop as well as lighten up that lower right corner again. I reposted the cropped image. Better?   Posted: 12/09/2024 20:29:20

Impactful image with great diagonals, diamonds and triangles. Your color treatments add warmth to the painted structures and rust. It is busy and slightly distracting at the sides so I would crop in from both sides. My choice would be at the third top bar on the left and at the end of the top railing on the right.   Posted: 12/06/2024 00:04:46

Piers,
I love the phrase "Impactful Image" and so glad that you like the concept. I took your advice to crop away some of the unncessary content and realized that I wasn't seeing the image with fresh eyes. I agree with your suggestion. I'm attaching the new version. It also includes Shirley's suggestion re: the darkness of the lower right corner. I brought up the shadows a bit.   Posted: 12/09/2024 20:47:28

I like this image with it's strong industrial vibe. The interplay of geometric shapes, the contrasting lines, and the vivid texture of rust and metal are eye-catching. The lighting casts dynamic shadows that add depth and further emphasize the structure's form. The image is sharp and there is good detail. The colors are rich and saturated, which adds to the visual impact of the photograph. A great image, well done.   Posted: 12/06/2024 23:19:20

Very nice image, Jim! I like the crop that Piers suggested as it brings focus directly to the stairs and shadows and lines associated with them, but as Shirley mentioned, it feels tilted as that pipe rail at the top is bright and where my eye lands first so I would level up the horizon at that point.   Posted: 12/16/2024 23:56:22
