About the Image(s)

Nikon D750, iso/1600, 300mm, f/10, 1/4000. I’ve been cranking up the shutter speed lately on my wild life photos as quite a few come out slightly blurry. I also use auto iso. It seems to be helping.

A lazy day for these sunny day Sea Lions taking advantage of the navigation buoy. They didn’t budge or wake up as I motored by. Just sawing logs. Seals being more skittish would of been long gone.

Nice capture of interesting subjects. Dodging the dark areas might increase the ability to see into the dark areas about the heads a bit better. Colors are great and add a lot to the image.   Posted: 07/10/2024 17:46:24

Good image. I can feel the relaxation. The colors in the buoy definitely add interest. I too am opting for a higher shutter speed as my ability to hold steady seems to be waning. This is nice and sharp.   Posted: 07/12/2024 18:18:12

A bunch of lazy bums! They make me smile. The red is fine but does overwhelm the sea lions a bit. What if you brought a gradient from the bottom up to tone it down.   Posted: 07/15/2024 12:38:48

Thanks Sol! The gradient adjustment is a good idea. Neal's dodging the dark areas is a good one too.   Posted: 07/15/2024 20:08:38

Great catch. I can imagine that it would be hard for them to get up on the buoy. I was wondering about reducing the red but I think it is the best the way it is or even brightened up a bit. You might try to lighten the shadows and add a vignette to focus more on the Sea Lions.   Posted: 07/19/2024 17:23:15

What a lovely and funny image! I also agree to apply a gradient from the bottom up.   Posted: 07/21/2024 04:02:08
