July 2024 - Grizzly cubs "hiding" behind mom

In one of the inlets in the Great Bear Rainforest in British Columbia, we came upon this grizzly family. The guide was familiar with these bears and they were pretty uninterested in a handful of humans in a Zodiak. But, whan a young male showed up, mom and cubs became concerned and moved away from him, but kept eyes glued. At a safe distance, but cubs decided to stand up to see better. Caught this one cub resting its paw on mom's back. An amazing experience to see these animals up sort of close. Taken in the evening. Handheld. Sony a1, Sony 100-400 5.6 lens, 1/1600, f8, iso 2000 at 200 mm. Handheld. Cropping and a little exposure adustment in Lightroom.

Three bears works very well. The mama looks like one of the cubs to me but that doesn't matter. The cub in the center ends up being nicely framed. Posted: 07/15/2024 12:26:12
Story-full candid nature photography! I like to reduce the highlights of the background a little. It is a lovely memorial picture.

This is a great capture. In a perfect world, all three bears would be looking the same direction as the front cub. This would put them all in profile so you could see their faces. I agree with the other comments about the vignette and the background. Posted: 07/29/2024 00:55:41
