About the Image(s)

I imagine you all use your phone camera from time to time so I think this may be of interest. This shot is from my iPhone 17. I did not need to use the zoom. The crop (see original) was made in an app called Big Photos which costs $2.95 a year (although are a couple of higher levels). It is rather astonishing in how it maintains detail and sharpness while holding down noise.

Very powerful image. Love the texture of his hands, both the clay and the the hands themselves. The blue of the table in the upper left is distracting and could be removed or toned down. I will look into the app. I am doing a workshop later this spring on beginning photo and apps like these are a good resource.   Posted: 04/02/2026 17:12:01

Nice subject. The blue and gray in the background is distracting . You could eliminate this by copying the material of the pants leg or by using the elimination tool in PS. It would have been nice to have a larger object being molded so that it would appear above the hands.   Posted: 04/04/2026 21:31:44

Thanks for the review of the app! It did do an excellent job of keeping all the elements of the original. Always an issue when cropping the original on my cell cell phone. I'll have to check it out.   Posted: 04/12/2026 23:21:25

Detail is amazing. I didn't realize it was a potter's hands until I saw the title. A bigger object to mold would have been good. I'm planning to upgrade to the 17. Thanks for the tip on the app.   Posted: 04/14/2026 18:01:13

A cell phone can take photos? I use mine to take a picture of the grocery list when I go shopping. I don't really know how to get them out of the phone if it was something serious. I checked my phone a couple days ago and there has been no activity on it since March 23.

I do agree about the material in the upper left. You might try desaturating it and even blurring it and darkening it so it doesn't draw the attention away from the hands. Could have have adjusted the aperture to through the out of focus?   Posted: 04/15/2026 22:51:00
