I had an assignment for a CAR. I thought about trying something I hadn't done for quite awhile and tried to pan the camera. I ended up taking over 100 images with most of them having the normal problems of not panning the same direction of the subject movement, not keeping the subject in the frame etc. When I got home, this was the only one close to what it should be. It happened to be the first one I tried.

It does give the feeling of fast movement. While the front of the car is sort of in focus, because almost everything is a bit blurred, it isn't quite as impactful. So hard to do, though.   Posted: 04/02/2026 17:01:29
I would expect to see the car in focus and the background blurred. This is somewhat a combination of the two. I'd be interested to know the settings for the camera. Did you use the same settings for all of the images?   Posted: 04/04/2026 21:23:10
The settings for this one are the first line above. I did vary the settings through all of the different shots after this. I think that 1/6 sec. was the slowest. It helped that it was a cloudy day. I think the speed limit here was 35mph.

The image reflects movement. How the car is only sharp on the Chevrolet logo is a bit of a mystery. A shutter of about 1/60 is about what Ive had a little success with.   Posted: 04/10/2026 11:41:07
Old memories. I did this years ago as part of a photo assignment at a Coupeville community arts center. With film.
Might be to close. Step back and with a longer focal length might make it easier to pan for a focused shot.   Posted: 04/12/2026 23:10:28

You are probably right. I was pretty close to a building behind me so I probably would have had to change positions.
