I picked a few blades of summer grass from my sister's garden, and arranged them in styrofoam to hold the blades upright. An off camera flash was set up on the side of the subject, and used to capture the image. It was processed in Photoshop, and a sepia toned filter was applied in Nik Silver Efex.

Barbara, this is an exquisite delicate arrangement which works well. I particularly like the way one of the stems crosses another - without that it would have been far less interesting! I think the only thing that you might have considered is how much dead space there is top left and right which is dictated by the height of the tallest blade of grass and even more stem would still have created the issue. Trimming that stem to lower it might have helped reduce that space. I like the sepia effect.   Posted: 11/03/2023 12:23:26
Barbara -- I enjoy your quiet minimalist plant studies. This is nice and sharp so every element of the seedhead reads clearly. Isolating the stalks against black works beautifully. Wouldn't change a thing.   Posted: 11/05/2023 10:36:57
This image definitely fits the minimalist category and is quite well done. Another approach I remember to produce such an image is to have a flat bed scanner (probably gives away my age) and lay the stems on the scanner bed and bring the scan into Photoshop. The white border separate from the background, but also add to the simplicity of the image.   Posted: 11/15/2023 15:12:50
Barbara, This is a beautiful image. I like the repeating patterns. Good leading lines. Contrast is amazing. I also like the triangle composition. I would not change one thing on this image. Good catch.   Posted: 11/18/2023 13:10:08
