About the Image(s)

Details: This was a recent studio shoot which was fully covid compliant and was really an early attempt at studio portraiture. The intention with this was to create a kind of faded movie star image and this is why I wanted a mono end result. I have used Nik software to help create this effect and also added a border to give an extra-cinematic feel but whether this really works or not, I’m not sure. This was taken on my Fuji xt3 with a 60mm lens 1/125 at f8 and with studio lighting

Hi Peter! I must confess that I've never been much of a fan of portrait photography in general...but in this case I think you nailed it! I love both images. The lighting and strong color in the original have come across well into B & W. I love the pose - especially the position of your model's eyes. Excellent job at editing as well. My only critique - and it's a small one - I would have liked to see just a little more room above her head, as I think it is cropped just a wee bit too closely.   Posted: 05/03/2021 09:35:07

Hi Peter,
Well done. You succeeded in portraying the feeling of yesteryear. You managed to capture sharp details, and most importantly the twinkle in her eye. Great texture on her dress, hair, and jewelry. I do like the border, but I think it took away the original space above her head, right elbow, and left hand on the sofa. There was extra space in the color image. This is a perfect nostalgic image.   Posted: 05/05/2021 10:06:03
