Swiss lines by Kathleen McCrary

October 2024 - Swiss lines

About the Image(s)

This was taken in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland. The design of the roof of the railway station created shadows of parallel lines which overlaid lots of other lines which, of course, caught my attention. I'll be interested to hear what you guys have to say about this.

Hi Kathleen,
Interesting image from Switzerland. The roof structure has many shapes and lines. Love the light and shadows. Good POV. Nice shot.   Posted: 10/09/2024 00:10:18

You do love your crisscrossing lines. The subject is very interesting, and the busyness is reflected in your picture, too much perhaps. My main problem is that I'm not able to find that my eye settles on any single element other than constantly coming back to the sign with the big #3 on it which I'm sure was not your point of focus. Perhaps if you had zoomed in to one or two of the elements and lines and made something of that.   Posted: 10/12/2024 18:18:18

Kathleen, sometimes I wonder if your camera has cracks in its lens! This is another image in which the main features are the intersections of diagonal/vertical/horizontal line play a huge part. I'm not sure I like this one as much as a previous shot that you posted but the theme of lines and shadows is again very obvious. Maybe a panel of several of your similar images would work well together. They certainly break the mould of what is often considered good composition and that is often the mark of true artistry. We await the next with baited breath!   Posted: 10/16/2024 14:59:02

Lots of line and shadows for sure. I am afraid for my taste it is too much and there is no place for my eyes to stop and take a break and enjoy the lines and shadows.   Posted: 10/26/2024 20:44:28

Very sharp and clear throughout. Also lots of different geometric lines leading to a virtual vanishing point to the left. But the image is too busy for my taste. I don't know where to look and nothing seems to be going on. Maybe an action shot after the train starts moving would be better.   Posted: 10/28/2024 19:28:32
