Excellent shot Doc - I'm always torn a bit when I see blurred wings in bird photography - on one hand it adds energy to certain images but sometimes, the blur is just distracting.

In my VF, I brightened the subject's face and cropped in tighter - I also added contrast to bring out some detail in the spider web, which I feel add immensely to the image.

Thank you Butch,I am truly grateful that you are always trying to help make my pictures better. In my cropped version there is more space in the direction of the movement. The bird's quick take off resulted in the wings staying blurry even at 1/2000 shutter speed. In addition, I did not originally intend to capture the movement of the wings.   Posted: 02/08/2025 14:55:11

Great photo and I agree with Butch's assessments. I am surprised you got that much wing blur at 1/2000 sec   Posted: 02/07/2025 21:03:38

Thank you Roy, I wanted to demonstrate how fast the bird is moving. Even I was surprised that the wings came out blurry at 1/2000 shutter speed.   Posted: 02/08/2025 15:00:57

What a beautiful kingfisher!! I love its vibrant iridescence against the soft background, and the cool spiderweb! I wish the eye was a little brighter but of course it is in shadow. Blurred wings can look very artistic, and I hope to try some intentional blurring when the light is too low for a high shutter speed.   Posted: 02/08/2025 18:57:27

Ernoe, I choose a shutterspeed between 1/4000 unto 1/8000 to catch a kingfisher doing its job. He is so fast ... Your photo is stunning. Sharpness where it should be and the blurry wings are a very good prove for the movement. And: you've shot the right moment!   Posted: 02/08/2025 23:10:24
