Your capture of the moths feels wonderfully sharp to me. Nice soft and pleasing background. My only suggestion would be that it isn't exactly feeling like a Macro shot, in that the moths are so small in terms of the overall image. I would like to see what removing some of this excessive background would do.   Posted: 10/04/2021 13:02:04

Dear Carol,

Well noted, thanks for the evaluation.   Posted: 10/05/2021 12:17:30

I agree, a technically splendid photo, well done. There's enough texture in the background to make it interesting, too. As a close-up, it's difficult to improve I think, maybe just a little cropped off the right edge to get the subject a bit more off the centre for my preference.

As you might have gathered, I'm not one to get too anxious over the magnification, and my picture this month is certainly less than 1:1, but I believe in a flexible definition of macro! If you crop off a lot, then some or the artistic balance (the tip with the water drop, the stem with the seeds) is lost I think. There's no perfect answer!   Posted: 10/04/2021 14:15:34

Actually, now I look more closely, your original seems to have less on the bottom than the submitted version! It could be argued that the original, with just a little off the bottom to remove the part bud which is on the bottom edge, might be a better version.   Posted: 10/06/2021 03:43:24

moths and little buds are pretty but what I like even more is that you captured that 1 silky thread and the water droplet on top... the little things that make difference.   Posted: 10/23/2021 15:21:43

Amazing focus in this image - everything is tack sharp except the background, which is perfect to set off the subject.

I agree that, technically, this doesn't come across as a macro shot, but it's lovely and, I believe, wall-worthy. Nice job.   Posted: 10/29/2021 12:40:49
