In a Garden Setting by Carol Sheppard

May 2021 - In a Garden Setting

About the Image(s)

This is a very simple one...taken "In a Garden Setting" at the Paton Center for Hummingbirds. I needed some flower shots with softer backgrounds. In this one, I did very little to adjust it in LR, and no cropping because I need the room to composite from my recent Hummingbird Workshop with Lisa Langell. I used my Olympus OMD5 M3, 60mm Macro lens, hand held, ISO64, f2.8, 1/800 secs. It was a partly cloudy day. I was pleased to see the butterfly on the background flower--unobtrusive but still discernible if you are really looking!

A hummingbird workshop sounds interesting. I gather you were taking pictures of birds and then inserting them onto backgrounds like this. It would seem very suitable for that due to the lovely soft bokeh, and space on the left.
I did notice the shape and thought "that looks like a butterfly". I'm afraid I find it rather distracting, wishing I could see the butterfly! But maybe when a stronger main focus of attention is there, it will have a "supporting" role in the picture. That's just me - somehow animate life trumps inanimate life. Does anyone else think that way?
Anyway, I do like the flower, it nice and sharp, and the other buds and their stems are attractively arranged around it.   Posted: 05/05/2021 01:08:19
