About the Image(s)

These are two burrowing owl chicks from Cape Coral, FL. There have been many nests there for years and years. This was my first time photographing them. I used f/7.1 because I wanted the mother in focus with the chicks, but decided I liked the chicks alone.

Nikon D500
f/7.1
SS 1/2500
ISO 400
500 PF lens

Really like this photo. You might want to give post vignetting a try just for the heck of it.   Posted: 07/07/2021 12:43:52

Judy, Great photograph!
Very sweet,

I think a slight vignetting would add to the photo!   Posted: 07/08/2021 16:34:10

Aren't they the best things in the world to photograph? I spent a morning in Broward County earlier this month and had to tear myself away (it had started to rain). They are just an incredible species that put on a show for you. Here they are very acclimated to humans except the parents being super vigilant when there are babies in the nest they pose for you.

This is a touching image telling a story and I love it. The one thing I would have done differently is cropping less. You cut off the tail feathers of the one on the left, I might have cropped to make sure they were still visible. As Don suggested a vignette might also then focus in the the faces a bit more.
But really great image!!!   Posted: 07/11/2021 13:55:35

Agree with Sherry about the tight cropping, but otherwise a really satisfying photograph! Great shot!   Posted: 07/18/2021 14:56:58

Thanks all. I went back and fixed the cropping and added the vignette.   Posted: 07/18/2021 19:51:03
