Great bird, and nice capture of the Blackbird with the insect in its mouth!

Only critique is that the photo was taken from above the bird, and not at or close to eye level. A lower perspective would have given this otherwise good photo additional impact.

Hi Peter!
Thank you for your comments.

The Yellow Headed Blackbird was just below a ledge.
There was just no way to get at the birds level   Posted: 05/06/2021 16:08:39

I agree with Peter's comments about the level of the camera for this shot, which was probably a hard shot to get anyway. The Dragon fly catch is so cool. I find the bright green in the upper left area to be distracting, I would try lowering the highlights in that area, or darkening the green.   Posted: 05/06/2021 12:36:50

Hi Judy!

I am going to try Sherry's suggestion and
crop the photo.

Thank you!   Posted: 05/06/2021 16:10:11

I get why you took this from above, looks to me like it was on the bank of a stream and probably no good way to get down without disturbing the bird. Unfortunately had you tried to get down the bird would have long ago eaten the dragonfly.

I might make a suggestion that you crop this to a square to remove the green distraction. You had plenty of pixels to work with so it will not degrade the quality of the image's sharpness ( I've attached an example, though I cut off your watermark - sorry!). You've also focused in on the "action" in the image and remove some of the background that does not really enhance what you are trying to highlight. See what you think.   Posted: 05/06/2021 14:19:36

Hi Christine,

The dragonfly and the front body of the bird is in sharp focus. I like the crop that Sherry made to eliminate the green. We don't have these birds in our region so thank you for sharing.   Posted: 05/06/2021 15:14:19

Nice capture Christine. I like that the damselfly and the subjects head is sharp and that your image tells a story. I agree with the tighter crop and a although not possible, composition from eye level would have been great.   Posted: 05/09/2021 18:44:29
