Crab Orchard Falls by Judy Haran

October 2024 - Crab Orchard Falls

About the Image(s)

This is Crab Orchard Falls in Banner Elk, NC, taken in October 2021, when we did a three week photo shoot of 30 waterfalls in the western North Carolina mountains. The town of Banner Elk is now decimated from Hurricane Helena which came on top of an earlier week of heavy rain. We stayed on top of a mountain nearby in a small condo. It was almost a mile down to the main road under good conditions.

Nikon D750, Nikon 16-35 lens, f/13, 1/3 second SS, ISO 100

Good composition and post processing. Is it a wall hanger?

Thanks. Yes it is.
I am so upset about so much out of our control lately.   Posted: 10/04/2024 19:08:35

Who doesn't want to take photos of waterfalls, especially in fall. This particular one is nice because of all the layers and colors.   Posted: 10/05/2024 20:24:15

Beautiful ! love the leading lines and way the falls go from left to right to left and leading your eye through the entire image. Now if we just get through this next one...please stay safe!   Posted: 10/06/2024 20:43:22

Great landscape shot! What a beautiful place, Judy, and you captured it very well. Love the fall color, the longer exposure, and the vertical composition. Great job. Our collective hearts go out to the people of that region who have been so horrifically affected by the hurricane, as well as to the towns and let's not forget the environment. This is something I'm not ashamed to get on my soapbox about: climate change. We as photographers have opportunities to tell stories about what is at stake. Glad to hear you made a print of this image. It's outstanding. Keep shooting!   Posted: 10/07/2024 03:12:14

Judy, Lovely photo of this beautiful waterfalls. I like the milky waterfall and how crisp the image it through out. Did you use a tripod for this photo? Thanks for sharing!   Posted: 10/14/2024 18:50:58

Thanks. Yes a tripod in order to use the slow shutter speed and probably a neutral density filter.   Posted: 10/14/2024 19:17:00
