Autum Leaves by Paul Smith

November 2023 - Autum Leaves

About the Image(s)

Last month, I entered a glimpse of Aspen and Fern leaves from the Colorado High Country. This month, I offer a view a bit closer to home…my backyard. Our “Virginia Creeper” is in Autumn Glory and receptive to my Canon 100mm Macro lens. This shot is hand held…very little breeze at time of shooting. Texture is what attracted me. I ran the image through sharpener and de-noise s/w; then brought in NIK collection to strengthen color and contrast. Canon 90D, Canon 100 Macro, ss 1/250, manual focus

The colors in these leaves are amazing. Excellent job pulling them out and keeping them balanced and natural looking. The depth of focus looks excellent. What was the aperture setting?   Posted: 11/11/2023 22:12:12

I shot this at f/8 with a macro lens from about 2 feet away.   Posted: 11/15/2023 10:52:03

To me, the color is nice and genuine. The focus and the details of the leaves are good.   Posted: 11/19/2023 05:44:54

I like the composition in that you have done a close-up of just a couple leaf cluster. This has me concentrating on the texture and colors of the individual leafs and it really creates in my mind the thought of late autumn. I appreciate the black space above the leaves in the center as for me it provides a sense of depth to the image. I think this is a great close-up study.   Posted: 11/22/2023 14:21:37

I always find it hard to shoot images like this, never being able to capture it the way I see it. It. Feels like you were able to do that, nice job!

I like the details and colors of this shot. To me, the stems are a bit distracting. If you were to perhaps darken them a bit, I think the leaves would pop a bit more.   Posted: 11/26/2023 08:26:11

Moody. I love the way the muted colors work. I agree with Dawn that the stems are a bit distracting.   Posted: 11/27/2023 17:19:37
