Gravestone Couple by Kelly Easler

October 2021 - Gravestone Couple

About the Image(s)

This shot is from an old cemetery in Lexington, MA. It was a beautiful crisp Fall day and I loved the way the gravestones for this couple had shifted to make them look like they were leaning together romantically. This was taken with my Nikon D750 and Nikon 24-120mm lens. Focal length: 110mm; shutter speed 1/25 sec; aperture f8 (aperture priority); ISO 200.

Quick question. Was this shot on a tripod? I like the focus of the photo on the gravestones. In my opinion though I finds the leaves on the tree a distraction. I am wondering what it would look like with more of a blur to the background. This picture fits with fall.   Posted: 10/18/2021 18:33:59
Hello, Darcy! It was not taken with a tripod, and you're right--I could've widened out that aperture a stop or two from f8. Thank you!   Posted: 10/20/2021 08:03:47

That is amazing that you shot it hand held. I would love to get to that ability.   Posted: 10/20/2021 11:17:10
I credit the camera and the lens ;)   Posted: 10/29/2021 12:42:56

I like the composition with the way the large stones are centered with the smaller ones around them for the foreground and the blurring of the background. I think the sharp fall colors contrast well with the slate of the tombstones and the green of the grass. For me this is a good shot that conveys the feeling of fall.   Posted: 10/19/2021 17:08:25

Interesting composition Kelly and well exposed. Not your typical subject matter but the story you see is definitely present. Well done.   Posted: 10/20/2021 12:08:17

Kelly,
Handheld at 1/25s is quite impressive! Good story-telling image.   Posted: 10/21/2021 10:38:24

I was recently added to this group and haven't gotten in much...will try to do so more! Nice shot...I agree with Darcy's tree comment. I like it being there--maybe rather than blur it you could try burning it a bit so it is not so bright.   Posted: 10/22/2021 05:05:52
