About the Image(s)
This shot was on my summer trip to Oregon. I had tried each month to get a moonset over the ocean, it finally did happen. I used Photo Pills and my compass to line up the moon between these two rocks. This was at Meyers Beach just north of Brookings. I was a little concerned over the cloud bank in the distance that the moon was slipping behind.
Post production: In ACR I upped the highlights, shadows, whites, and blacks. I used the point color tool to strengthen the reflection. I brought it into PS and removed the light that was on the horizon. I also very slightly lightened the rocks.

Darcy, I like the water curving to the ocean with the reflection of the sun, Nice framing! I like the little wisp of waves hitting both rocks as well. I'm assuming you used a tripod given 1/2 second?
As always, it's personal preference, but I like the original sun a bit more. If I didn't see it, I'd like how you edited it as well, but I prefer the deeper color just a bit more.   Posted: 10/05/2024 21:31:32

Yes, this was on a tripod. Thank you for the comments. The more I look at the image and the way I edited does make it look more like a sun. It was the moon setting and the sun was rising in the east so there was some interesting lighting going on. I had scoped the rocks out the night before and then kept having to move the chair and tripod to get the moon lined up. Interesting adventure.   Posted: 10/09/2024 06:42:47

I really like this! It is soothing. Your SS and use of tripod make for a rare and impressive capture. Very nice!   Posted: 10/08/2024 21:35:37

Nice! I like the refection of the moon on the water - would have been nice to have had even more of it.   Posted: 10/15/2024 16:08:48

I did try to get more of the reflection. I just enjoyed watching the moonset   Posted: 10/18/2024 18:48:17

I find the dark coloring of this photo captivating. At first I didn't know how to reach to it, but the more I look at it the more I like it. I like the rivulet of water from the bottom leading my eye into the photo and then I like how you caught a reflection of moon there on the beach. For me your composition is spot on. You seem to have the rocks just visible enough to add to the photo, but they don't distract.
I haven't tried photographing that late at the beach, but now you've encouraged to go out and give it a try, especially as I live so close.   Posted: 10/16/2024 21:47:23

I love moon rises, unfortunately I had to settle for the moonset. This is an amazing site to see. Well, worth an attempt to photograph.   Posted: 10/18/2024 18:51:23

This is the first time I've seen the moon at moonset moment, and it resembles a moonrise. Compared to the edited composition, I personally prefer the original version because it offers more layers and imaginative space; it just needs adjustments to the layers and relationships of light and shadow. The cloud shadows in front of the moon highlight it even more, as we always see it as a circle, which is basically the same. This different moon feels more vibrant and interesting. Indeed a good shot!   Posted: 10/18/2024 03:42:11

Thanks for the feedback. When you say you like the original is that the total uncropped. I see where that does add another layer.
I want to say I did have to act fast with the clouds because it was quickly being overtaken.   Posted: 10/18/2024 23:43:18

I like the image and the contrast between the grays and the bright colored moon. It must have been great to be there and witness this rare event.
The color of the moon has been changed in post yet its reflection in the water appears not to have changed. The fiery orange is more striking than the sun like yellow.   Posted: 10/18/2024 16:59:58

Thank you for pointing out that I missed fixing the reflection. The more I look at this I agree with you and Dawn the original moon is better.   Posted: 10/18/2024 23:45:06
