About the Image(s)

I took this photograph on April 12, 2022, at the Tidal Basin in Washington DC. I saw these two people sitting and just staring into space. Then, I noticed the urn at their feet and realized they had probably just scattered the ashes of a loved one in the Tidal Basin. I didn’t do much to the photo in post processing. I cropped it to remove the blue bag and person walking towards them and then did minor edits with contrast, shadows, and highlights. I wish I had included something in the background that gave a sense of where they are, but wasn’t able to do that. I used a Canon 5D Mark IV, with a 24-105mm lens at 85mm, f4.0, 1/125 sec, and ISO 100.

I think you have captured a great moment, the urn and the looks on their faces tells the story well. I like the depth of field, the background is not interesting and if it was in focus it would not add to the image. Well done.   Posted: 05/06/2022 11:48:59

For me, leaving the blue bag in makes for a more complete story. This is a great street shot. Sad and tells a story of life. I took in to Luminar NEO for cropping and a couple of adjustments to taste including a slight vignette to keep your eye in the frame.   Posted: 05/06/2022 16:28:21

What an image to capture - I agree with your crop, the depth of field may have been a bit more shallow - otherwise excellent   Posted: 05/15/2022 06:33:23

Thanks! Yes, I wish I'd had a more shallow depth of field.   Posted: 05/18/2022 20:00:19

You pulled my heartstrings. True photo story. Excellent eye. How sad, how final. Or maybe the beginning.   Posted: 05/18/2022 19:09:32
