About the Image(s)

I took this photo last year in late November. This was at a post election protest in downtown Sacramento California. Protestors were attempting to fight counter protestors. A police line separated both sides and I got a shot of a Sacramento Police Officer addressing one of the protestors on why he wasn't allowed to cross the line. I remember the phrase "this won't happen today" being said by the officer. The shot does focus more on the officer. I did a lot of editing and through some Youtube videos on cinematic photography, I edited the photo with the intent to make it look like it came from a movie. It did require a lot of adjustments in Adobe lightroom.

Sony A7r3, ISO 125, 64mm, f/5.6, 1/100 of a sec.

Great image, would be even better if policeman stood out more from the back ground. I have brushed behind him in Lightroom, to lighten the background a little to separate him more. Also sharped a little more and toned down the noise. What do you think?

Thank you Jill! The editing looks good and I like how it makes the subject stand out. I'll keep in mind to look more at brushing in Lightroom.   Posted: 10/16/2021 19:29:39

I think that Jill's editing works well. I also like yours, yours seems to tell a slightly different, dystopian type story. I think you did a good job of capturing another interesting moment in these trying times.   Posted: 10/22/2021 07:45:28

Thank you Lou! I've been going through images of the times we're in and I'm thinking of building them up into a collection that does portray a dystopian world.   Posted: 10/30/2021 09:50:32

I think you did a great job. I thought at first it was from a movie scene or a scene being filmed. Both shots are different and give a different feeling.   Posted: 10/25/2021 21:28:50

Thank you Marianne! I've been watching YouTube videos on how to make images look more cinematic and this is one that I saw as a good candidate.   Posted: 10/30/2021 09:53:03

A great street capture which shows feeling and emotion. For me it's a little underexposed probably due to the large amount of sky. I tried to open up the shadow detail and dodged the cops face and arm to bring more attention to him. Good work.   Posted: 10/28/2021 11:10:15

Thank you Chuck! I like your editing on this shot. The sky along with the surrounding buildings at the time of the photo did create some challenges with exposure.   Posted: 10/30/2021 09:56:21
