I like the mix of angles in. the image with the intersection of verticals and the diagonal. Maybe a little darkening to the backgroound to better distinguish the subject, but overall very nice.   Posted: 09/06/2023 18:17:26

I have not done many wildlife shoots, however the basics are still the same. This seems to be shot mid-day. your highlights are a bit bright. A good way to get around bright natural light is to retouch the vivid colors and shadows that will get bleached out.   Posted: 09/07/2023 23:56:22

Hi Mathew. Thanks for sharing your adjustment layers in PS. I wonder if highlight general adjustment in LR for RAW file is sufficient. Indeed, my experience, harsh light for animal images are more complex than human portraits.   Posted: 09/20/2023 02:00:09

Hello Frans,

A global adjustment could be all you need. The wood that the heron is on is what needed to be brought down in this case, so a global adjustment wouldn't work out too well.   Posted: 09/20/2023 02:44:30

I never noticed how the yellow eyes and legs work together. Nice! I agree that it looks a little bright. Was Matthew right with the mid-day guess?   Posted: 09/12/2023 16:19:56

Nice shot with appropriate crop and composition. I agree with the group opinions about the highlight issues. My guess, this could simply be controlled by using highlight adjustment in LR.
