Take Off - Flock of White Faced Ibis by David Heemsbergen

June 2022 - Take Off - Flock of White Faced Ibis

About the Image(s)

Not a great image, but submitted because I had never seen this many White Faced Ibis together and the early morning light gave the wings an iridescent quality. It took 30 minutes to slowly work my way close to the group for a shot, then waiting another 20 minutes before they took flight.

1/3200, f7.1, 500mm hand held.

You worked hard for this shot! I agree that the lighting really shows off their colors. Did you consider just a group of the birds with no land? Not saying it would be better but just wondered if you thought about it?   Posted: 06/06/2022 14:47:34

Thanks Ginny. I do plan to do a close crop to see if that works.   Posted: 06/11/2022 09:28:16

Will you share the re-crop?   Posted: 06/11/2022 17:31:03

I admire your tenacity. Tough to get a simple image when the birds are located in the open like this. I can not see an easy way to improve the image but enjoy the dynamic of the birds as they take flight.   Posted: 06/11/2022 16:19:43

I like this image of a flock taking off. The two foreground branches are a bit distracting for me and IMO could be removed to further enhance the action created by the flock.   Posted: 06/11/2022 23:21:46

From David: Here is the cropped version. Neither image are prize winners, but good memories.   Posted: 06/12/2022 08:35:57
