Grizzly Bear Glacier National Park by Dan McKenna

November 2021 - Grizzly Bear Glacier National Park

About the Image(s)

Sony A1, Sony 200-600 @ 600, ISO 1600, f/8 1/640s. I was on the east side of the Continental Divide driving down a dirt road and spotted this guy about 200' up slope. I normally do not get closer than 300' from Grizzlies, but I was right next to my jeep. The cool thing on this image is since the subject was up slope the distance from the camera to to the bear was less than 100'. Cropped and ran it through Topaz Gigapixel with some dodging and burning in post.

He does not look friendly. Glad you were close to the car. Did you try cropping and making the bear bigger? For my eyes there is too much background.   Posted: 11/02/2021 05:29:42

Yep you guys are right a tighter crop and perhaps a vignette around the subject too. Thanx   Posted: 11/05/2021 11:53:43

Agree that cropping might enhance your subject. After running through Gigapixel I assume you could crop without too much noise.   Posted: 11/05/2021 10:27:04

Dan, if you re-crop post it so we can see the difference.   Posted: 11/09/2021 15:11:51

Really enjoy this image. The grizzly is certainly aware of your presence which adds to the tension. The only way I see to improve the original image is to crop off some of the top as others have suggested, the foreground was fine. Just wonder what the bear is digging up!   Posted: 11/24/2021 07:05:03
