Mallard Landing by Glenn Rudd

July 2021 - Mallard Landing

About the Image(s)

In March 2019 I attended a photography workshop in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Victoria is located on Vancouver Island and is a beautiful port city with many parks and waterways nearby. For this shot, we were coaxing the ducks to fly between two locations by casting bird feed on the water. Even though the locations were separated by 200 yards, the birds were well aware of new food sources. This was my favorite shot of the entire trip. The Mallard hen is caught at the exact moment of impact with the water, the bird's features are tack-sharp, and the bonus is the nice reflection in the water.
Technical: Hand-held, 1/1600 sec, f/9.0, ISO 1600, 340 mm.

I guess it is just you and I this month.
Nice capture and image sharp with the feet on the water. Does look like there was a bird to the right that is disturbing the water in front.
Not sure I agree with the feeding of the ducks to get the shot.
Great reflection and you stopped the action with a high enough shutter speed.   Posted: 07/11/2021 13:00:54

Ah! super shot. Love the reflection and action coming out of the shot at the same time. Eyes are super sharp and the image is very well composed.   Posted: 07/17/2021 21:25:35
