Dead Vlei landscape by Margaret Frazer

June 2021 - Dead Vlei landscape

About the Image(s)

This image was taken at 1/200 sec. f5.6. iso100 with my Canon Powershot G3. It was shot near Dead Vlei, Sossuvlei, Namibia. I love the interesting colours and artistic quality. I didn't do much in processing but liked the unusual effect it has on the colors and texture.

Nice shot, I felt the dry grass is distracting especially in the layers of nice colors in the landscape. Sharing an example to explain my point.   Posted: 06/13/2021 13:39:49

A nice composition, but very flat with not much contrast. A lot of improvement chould be achieved in post processing: color, detail, contrast. Also, a little crop from the right and bottom would help.   Posted: 06/17/2021 19:52:44

I agree that the image does appear very flat - not much depth and yes it could have been cropped at the bottom cutting out the dry grass.
The tree is the image and as Glenn has suggested more work in post would have made this a better image. Then I have a problem with my suggestion - at what point are we altering the image to make it different from the reality of the light during when the image was taken?????? Truly a balancing act as well as deciding what your specific ethics in Digital manipulation is acceptable.
This shot was taken in low light conditions and I would go out on a limb and say family accurate of the situation.
OK, I apologize - to much ethical considerations - good composition.   Posted: 06/21/2021 17:28:48
