Burrowing Owl by Dave Ficke

About the Image(s)

This is a burrowing Owl and it is taking off from a perch where the next is just below.
Camera was a D850 with a 400 f2.8 lens and a 1.4 teleconverter. Shutter speed 1/2000, at f6.3 at 550 mm. Iso 200. I was using a Really Right Stuff tripod and a gimbal. Post-processing was crop and sharpening. I edited out some white poop on the log as it was distracting.
I have been reading from several people in various study groups that they have been using Topaz Denoise. I looked into it and bought it and used it in this image.

Just wow! Lovely wingspan and I assume the Lower and upper thirds of the image has distractions for this pano-type cropping.
It would have been nice if you can share the image prior to Denoise tool to check if it has softened the image a bit. I think great focus though and a lovely image.   Posted: 06/13/2021 13:20:07

A very nice capture and well-composed. The eyes are compelling and the detail features are nicely shown.   Posted: 06/17/2021 20:01:53
