About the Image(s)

This is an image of a lava field from the Fagradalsfjall volcano eruption in Iceland the summer of 2021. I
liked the forbidding vastness of the field and how it dwarfed the risk-taking photographer. To guide the
viewer’s attention, I enhanced the center of the image by raising the luminosity of the smoke and
allowed the blue tones to come through. Camera data: Nikon Z7ii, f/13, 1/200, 120mm, ISO=160

Hello Charles:

My earlier "ghost" reply was not intentional.

Your dare-devil co-photographer in red really tells the whole story of this striking image. The vastness and desolation of the place are brought out, and the enhancement of the blue colors lend an other-worldly appearance.

Hi Charles, thank you for sharing the images. Did you feel hot sitting next to the lava? I really like the red spot of a person on the lava field. With everything burnt and smoke rising into the sky, I think you captured it beautifully. The texture of the lava field creates a view of destruction after the volcano erupted. Increasing the luminosity of the smoke is nice, but I suggest adjusting the blue color as it appears to be over-saturated. I recommend using color balance to mask and decrease the blue. Thank you for sharing this rare and stunning image.   Posted: 05/10/2023 14:38:12

Hi Charles,
Very unusual image. The original image almost lack of details. However, you could reveal the beauty of this dangerous show of nature. From my point of view, this is very rare in our part of the world, so while I delighted to see the show, I also feel anxious; the other photographer in red dress and the land adding more details of the circumstances. It is really difficult to enhance the image. Yours and the other photographer's effort are appreciated. Thanks for sharing such a photo of nature.   Posted: 05/20/2023 11:27:21

Wow, what an experience! I agree with Quang about the blue center color. You've done a marvelous job in creating a good contrast between light and dark within the image and your final also enhances the lava flow at center. Nothing like a person in red adding perspective to the landscape. I like the way you brought out the texture of the scape too.   Posted: 05/27/2023 11:27:04

Thanks Trey. I will slightly desaturate the blue, much as I am addicted to rich deep colors.   Posted: 05/27/2023 13:32:50
