About the Image(s)

This was shot on California’s Big Sur coast. All tourists take this image so I tried to do something different with it by cropping, adding one of my skies, a sunset, some mystical haze, and using dodge and burn lightening where appropriate to the fake the sunset, all in Luminar 4. Needs more work but I thought it was worth sharing. Camera stuff: Sony A7R2, 1/160 sec, f20, ISO 50 through Sony 70-300 G Master lens.

Hi Rich,
Truly an iconic photo of this location, which I just visited this past month. Took the same photo. Just to say you have done a very nice job with the composition and the editing. The only thing I find a little distracting is the sun glare on the upper left side. Beautiful   Posted: 11/06/2021 11:12:42

Rich, I know this tree. My brother lives in this area. You took a beautiful portrait of it. Adding the sky and a sun accent pushed the image to another level. It could be my monitor, but the focus on the big rock may be slightly off?   Posted: 11/10/2021 12:33:58

Charles, thanks. I keep forgetting that when I shrink the image down to under 1 mb that I need to run it though sharpening. I hope that will help in the future.   Posted: 11/10/2021 13:40:49

Hi Rich,
I thought you might enjoy seeing my copy of the photo of the tree. Not as nice as yours. But if you get a good review from the members I might submit mine next month. HaHa   Posted: 11/10/2021 21:37:40

Wow ! it's colorful clouds, I just saw once long time ago. I love lonely tree and is a good theme of photograph indeed, nice capture.   Posted: 11/11/2021 05:24:26

The famous tree is positioned on the 1/3 line and nicely extends beyond the horizon line. The brightness on the rock to my eye doesn't meet where the sun would be with a sunset at horizon line left. It would be more to the front of the rock outcropping and the left side of the tree. If only you were there at high tide with some wave action against the rocks! Great elements in this image to play around with!   Posted: 11/24/2021 10:27:27

Hi Rich, the photo of the cypress tree standing alone is really striking, I like the fact that you took the shot with the tree over the horizon, it adds to the focus of the subject. However, if the subject is a cypress tree alone, maybe according to my view it is not yet the main subject, maybe you want to show more beaches and cliffs in the whole scene. After post-processing, the cliff may be a bit bright and that white color may catch the eye of the first viewer. You are very successful in choosing a very beautiful sky to replace. Maybe the cloud on the left third is more balanced. Thank you for recommending a place for me to visit north California in the future. Best regards,   Posted: 11/28/2021 16:21:25
