About the Image(s)

Photographers have been known to take foolish risks to get the right shot. To take this photo of the Pont des Arts over the Seine in Paris I positioned myself in a restricted area on the bow of a tour boat. It allowed a clean shot going under the bridge without the hats and heads of tourists getting in the way. A lot was done to render the final image. In camera raw I raised the exposure, heightened the shadows, and brought out more details. I eliminated or replaced distracting lights, objects, and boats near the banks. Finally with many adjustments, I replaced the sky. Camera data: Nikon D750, f/8, 1/200, 55mm, ISO=800

Charles, another lovely image and worth the "risk" you took. For me the colors in the sky and the reflected water is enchanting. I believe that you have done the brightness correctly on the bridge by bringing out the deck detail but leaving the pillars in the shadows. AS you know I like three layers in images - so to my eye the lightened houses on the left bank in the VF add a bit more dimension to the overall image. Nicely Done!   Posted: 05/02/2021 14:46:42

Dear Charles,
I find a beautiful combination of scape - water, bridge/ buildings and water. The original images is not so attractive but you have enhanced the sky beautifully, reflection on water is much interesting during sunset. The bridge has been enhanced partially; but buildings on both sides beyond the bridge may be required enhancement to obtain details. This is a difficult job also for me. However, I have enjoyed to see the moments of sunset in the image.   Posted: 05/07/2021 11:06:14

What a wonderful bridge! The overall effect you are trying to get was attained. I wonder how you got the perspective? From another bridge? In a boat? Anyway it's a great shot. I do like the added sky and water highlights, however my eye becomes engrossed in the sky and looks past the bridge. Is that your intent? All in all, a fine effort.   Posted: 05/07/2021 13:36:13
