About the Image(s)
For Rocktober, here's a nice rock. And some water. And a bird. It was not taken in Rockport, rather in Iceland. The thing is, it's a 30 second exposure and the bird is still acceptably sharp. That alone is cool. I have many different versions of this including fast shutter speeds and monochrome, this is my favorite.
Nikon Z8; 80mm; 30s; f/4.5; ISO 100.

A fabulous image. It is amazing that the bird is still sharp after a 30 second exposure! The small areas of green on the rocks pulls the eyes in a good way, especially on the rocks leading to the bird-almost like it's directing the eye to the bird. Love it.   Posted: 10/05/2024 22:23:44

I love the misty looking water! I've never done such a long exposure of water - very nice effect. It's amazing that the bird stood still for 30 seconds. It does look very Icelandic.   Posted: 10/06/2024 04:30:40

Dreamy image. Love the effect. Glad the bird cooperate! Lots of interesting layers. Mono works well!   Posted: 10/07/2024 16:49:37
Mono would work well. But.....   Posted: 10/07/2024 17:44:52

A very well executed Timed Exposure.
Would a 16:9 ratio serve the subject/space better? Either bias to the top, or biased to the bottom edge ... either version may actually help spark more attention ... what do you think?   Posted: 10/18/2024 15:03:04

Yes, I agree. I was so enamored of the water effect I sort of didn't think of that. I think I would actually crop off a bit of sky and more of the foreground. Will submit this in a week when I get home.   Posted: 10/19/2024 04:58:24
Great photo! The long exposure is perfect and allows a dreamy, misty foreground. The rocks are composed well with a lead to the lone bird (who managed to stand still for the duration...a miracle). As far as a potential crop, in my opinion cropping off some of the sky and keeping the foreground intact is the best option. Thanks for sharing!   Posted: 10/19/2024 13:33:22
This is a very nice image. Obviously a very overcast day. I do tend to agree with Lance in suggesting the 16:9 crop. My only other suggestion is to strengthen the small bits of green on the rocks.   Posted: 10/25/2024 15:57:30
