About the Image(s)

My wife and I parked at the edge of the parking lot of our church. As we got out of the car, JuDeane (my wife) pointed at the wooded scene in front of us and said, "That is beautiful ." She was seeing more in the scene than I saw. I decided to return and photograph the scene at the same time on the following day and then to attempt to create the scene with the kind of beauty that her mind/eye had seen and felt.

Canon RP camera. f/8. 1/125 shutter speed. ISO 400. RAW file.

The basic processing was done in Adobe Lightroom Classic. The image was then edited in Adobe Photoshop. I began adding tone sculpturing (Dodge and Burn) followed by separating and enhancing the colors. Finally I added light where I felt it was needed in order to lead the eye of the viewer deeper into the woods.

Chan, your editing really enhanced the image, changing the light. You accomplished your goal of leading the eye into the woods.   Posted: 10/05/2024 22:12:28

Your wife has a good eye and you show the depth of your understanding of her view of the world by your skillful enhancement of the scene. I'm so glad you included the original to let us experience your thought processes.   Posted: 10/06/2024 04:51:34

Kudos to you and your wife for taking a somewhat ordinary scene and visualizing the beauty in it! The portrait orientation works well with the repeating vertical tree trunks. I like your edits. What do you think the camera locked focus on? To my eye - the image isn't as sharp as I would have expected given the scene/settings?   Posted: 10/08/2024 04:30:39

Well done, Chan!!

As Steve mentioned ... a good eye to be able to "see" beauty most would past by ...

"Points to Ponder" I like the horizontal plane of the foreground Bushes ... they may act to frame the bottom part if re-cropped carefully ... see my test crop ... In the end, both compositions are valid entries ... but wanted to see if the foreground Bushes would add depth ...   Posted: 10/18/2024 14:51:21

Lace, I apologize for being so late to answer. This month has sped by at a rapid pace'
Thank you for your comments and suggestion. I see the value of the alternate presentation of my image. Your's is closer to what I imagined when I first composed it in the viewfinder of my camera.   Posted: 10/25/2024 15:29:58

Excellent photo and great capture of a beautiful scene. I like the portrait orientation for this photo emphasizing the tree trunks. Great work in editing as the light is emphasized very well. Great eyes for you both in seeing and capturing this beautiful scene!   Posted: 10/19/2024 13:27:06
