About the Image(s)

This is an old Masonic building in town. I liked the lighting in the windows and creepy things hanging in the one. It reminded me of a haunted house and I wanted to do something creative with it.

At the time I used only Snapseed. I didn't correct the perspective on purpose, just straightened a little. I saturated colors, used the HDR tool to draw out textures, then used the grunge tool (can't remember which one). Enhanced lighting made it look like 'spirits' flying around the building so I thought it would be neat with the shadow of a ghost over the building. I used the Double Exposure tool, tried a few images and picked one. I turned it upside-down and adjusted the opacity. Surprisingly, it seemed to work and looked (to me) like an eerie face screaming at the top left with light beams from the one window. I adjusted a vignette for a slightly darker look. Happy haunting!

This turned out great, Belinda! I used to do these in photoshop on my desktop, I didn't know Snapseed could do these too, blend modes. I think the fact that you chose two images of similar subject, yet different, contributed to this working out. The overall mood and effect you've created works great.   Posted: 10/07/2021 17:55:44

Thank you! I've never used PS for anything, believe it or not! In Snapseed, you use the Double Exposure tool and it allows for alot of adjustments. I think it may be the same as your blended modes. They just don't use the same terminology. It's alot of fun! I'm not sure why the image I chose worked. Sure doesn't look like it should! I tried a few. Somehow it did what I needed.   Posted: 10/10/2021 15:28:40

Wow! I hope that someday I can get just a glimpse into the creative process to produce an image like this. The lighting, colors and textures are great. Light rays shooting from the window, howling faces … Oh MY! Love it.   Posted: 10/13/2021 19:27:28

Thanks, Gene! I don't have a process, but I think my curiosity gets carried away!   Posted: 10/18/2021 10:35:32

The old Masonic building with its design and most of the windows have lights off, looks eerie itself. You have created a nice haunted building by adding smoke-like to the sky and the light beams through the second window at the bottom. I could not figure out the skeleton's face of the Original 2 in this final image.
Your image is great! It meets your objective of the haunted house, and it comes at the right time for Halloween! I don't have any suggestion for improvement.   Posted: 10/14/2021 05:42:59

Thank you, Kieu-Hahn! About the 2nd image used over the building, it was not the skeleton face that showed through. It was the lighter ghost and sticks in the upper left that formed light rays and 'screaming' face. Strangely, that is a hand of the lighter ghost that turned into the face in the final. With the opacity of the 2nd image reduced substantially the blue skeleton became invisible -- a good thing.   Posted: 10/18/2021 10:32:36

And a Happy Halloween to you also! This is a great image, with the colors giving it a scary feeling. Good job!   Posted: 10/15/2021 10:07:15

This is a good image for the scary season. I went back to April, 2019 to see whether the one you posted back then was the same building because it had impressed me. This version seems more aglow and easier to see the details, so you must have increased the brightness in dark areas. Snapseed was a great choice after combining such un-like images, making the final image so much more impactful than its parts.   Posted: 10/22/2021 15:34:30

That's funny, Pat! I had the strangest feeling I posted this previously, and I checked ahead of posting it but couldn't find it. I guess I just didn't go back far enough!   Posted: 10/23/2021 21:42:18
