Guitar Man by Jack Florence Jr

October 2021 - Guitar Man

About the Image(s)

Taken outside a Walmart in Mexico a few years ago, I was taken by this scene as it is so emblematic of simple humanity of the people there as a travel image, him sitting in the cart, and then of course the repeating guitars and muted colors. I tried to punch up the color just a bit using the iphone's photos editor, but couldn't do much.

This image is a very interesting street photography. The scene is an unusual scene! The guitars are displayed for sale on the street and the seller is sitting on the shopping cart that was turned vertically and used as his seat. I think that there are many potential guitar buyers in that area that he wants to compete with Walmart.
I'd prefer to crop tighter the top part of the image.   Posted: 10/09/2021 21:25:18

This is such a special image. I love the colors and starkness of the image. I don't think you need to do too much. The story speaks for itself and is endearing. I like how the fellow has made sure he and the guitars are sitting on plastic or paper, too! As far as any changes, you might not need so much wall at the top. It might lend itself to a panorama. Nicely seen and a warm memory forever.   Posted: 10/10/2021 16:02:53

Nice street shot with an engaging story. Simplicity of the guitars, repeating shapes and lines and interesting color variations, leaning against the wall on their cases to protect the base. The old man (craftsman?) settled in for the day in his portable office. Would have loved to see the wheels on the shopping cart. My only thoughts are to tighten the crop a little on the side and the top.   Posted: 10/13/2021 19:30:36

This is a very interesting shot. I think it communicates a sense of loneliness--just a man, his personal struggle, and his products. Expressing such, I think that large empty wall above him speaks a great deal about loneliness--I would not crop it out.   Posted: 10/14/2021 00:16:42

Wonderful street grab shot. Sharp, good colors and composition. I don't think I'd crop out the top due to the story; Mexico>lone man trying to make a living.   Posted: 10/15/2021 10:26:25
