Clouds by Ruth Holt

September 2021 - Clouds

About the Image(s)

"Clouds" was taken last week. Opened and resized in APS-CS6. Used a little clone on a roof top in lower right side and sharpen over all. Hoping all are well and enjoying life.

A very nice image Ruth. I feel that you have to much sky. I cropped some off the top and this what I came up with.   Posted: 09/11/2021 15:59:32

Howdy, Stuart! Thanks for stopping in to visit. I was leaving so much sky in because I like the wide open spaces, (which I don't have here in town) but you are right, it does need cropping.   Posted: 09/13/2021 10:56:16

Nice summer scene. I imagine sitting on the veranda with a cool beverage. I agree with Stuart RE top crop. Scanning the tree line (interface with sky) I see quite a few artifacts in the sky next to the tree tops. No idea what or why. Also, my eyes are distracted on the left by the smooth curving "U shaped" transition from tree top to sky - something that does not happen in nature. I suggest cropping out the left side to eliminate the empty blue sky and smooth tree / sky transition, which would focus the photo on the interesting cloud feature.   Posted: 09/11/2021 19:03:50

Thanks, Gene for the crop. I missed that "U", guess I was cloning and just went too far.   Posted: 09/13/2021 11:00:11

What a beautiful sky! I like the panoramic idea and agree that you could crop for a stronger image. Unless you see artistic value in it, you don't need that much sky. I see the artifacts mentioned (right above the word 'clouds' at the tree line). You can smooth that out easily or try cloning it. Great job editing the house's roof line. I don't notice it at all.

I've often seen scenes where there's not much else than a beautiful sky, and how to approach?

I like that you have a foreground that is uniform and not distracting. I also like the crop suggestions the others offered. The deep blue hues and puffy clouds evoke a sense of mood we can all identify with.   Posted: 09/13/2021 20:10:02

It seems a beautiful day with blue sky and interesting clouds. The foreground with some top parts of the trees are not quite a strong subject to hold the viewer's eyes there.
I'd prefer to have a silhouette of a lacy tree or something with interesting shape in the foreground.   Posted: 09/20/2021 08:05:39

A beautiful summery day scene in the sky, with various types of clouds to hold the viewers' interest. Your phone captured the intense blues well without washing out the whites and greens in the scenery.   Posted: 09/26/2021 16:29:10
