About the Image(s)

This is an image of the Anthony Wayne Bridge in Toledo, Ohio. It has a high enough span to allow freighters to pass under it. I took this with my Mavic 2 Pro, f2.2, 1/5 second, ISO 812. In Photoshop I removed the two bright lights atop the bridge. They were too bright, I probably could have found a more elegant solution to just removing them. Due to the low light the original looked quite muddy. Overall I like the finished product.

Hey Lou, great image, you did a fine job processing the image. I agree with your decision to clone out the lights. I do have one suggestion, use the crop rotate tool (or perspective tool) to level the bridge deck and bring the bridge tower to vertical- I have a T-square in my desk that I used for this purpose.   Posted: 11/13/2023 08:31:46

Lou,
I have seen this bridge somewhere? I like the night shot. Great light nice composition. Good photo of the bridge and cityscape. I would make sure the horizon is level it looks low on the right to my eye. I am on the fence about the lights I kind of like them maybe toned down but I like your work.

Hi Alex, thanks for the comments. The horizon does look a little off. I think the lights would be better just toned down but when I tried it they looked really weird.   Posted: 11/13/2023 15:55:24

Hi Lou. Oh, I'm so jealous. I so want to do more nighttime photography, it is my favorite, either drone or otherwise!! I've only been up with my drone at night once, and there wasn't enough light to really photograph anything.

I think there was a little discussion earlier about whether it is ok to fly at night. I need to make sure I have the necessary lights attached if I do it.

I like the removal of the lamps at the top of the tower. I also really like the composition! It is minor, but there is a light line down the left side of the building in the center background caused by the sharpening. I would suggest trying to remove it.

You inspire me to go out and get some nighttime city images!   Posted: 11/16/2023 19:11:29

Thanks for the comments. I did not notice the line on the building, I will see if I can correct that. This was taken in the blue hour.   Posted: 11/17/2023 09:04:45

Very nice image!

I might have brightened the middle a little and burnt down the area by the crane. And if you were really bold (easy for me to say as it's not my drone) flown closer to the crane and made that the center of your image   Posted: 11/23/2023 09:46:42

I really like your image, Lou. I need to try to take more night shots. At first, I was indifferent as to the two bright lights, but now I agree with your removal of them.

I wish the cityscape lights were a bit brighter. Perhaps adjusting the highlights in LR or masking would allow you to brightening them just a bit without overexposing them might work.

The night images you and others in the group create inspire me to try more night photography.

Thanks for the comments Don. I'll see what I can do with the cityscape as far as the exposure goes.   Posted: 11/25/2023 15:22:08

Nice view of Toledo... glad there are no emergency vehicles this time. Night shooting is so cool... just be done before it gets too dark and you get in trouble.   Posted: 11/28/2023 10:08:15

Thanks Lisa. Yes, I'll stick to the blue hour until I get night time equipped.   Posted: 11/28/2023 10:59:36
