About the Image(s)

I have a soft spot for gazebos. This one was shot in the early morning last week at a local park. The first original is a jpg saved from the OOC raw file. The second original is after I had done some Lightroom edits. I always start my edits in Lightroom, some basic color and light adjustments, and cropping. Then I moved to Photoshop to Dodge & Burn and to further refine the image so the viewer's eye is directed towards my subject.

The exif data includes the following:

Shutter speed: 1/240 sec
f/6.3
Focal length: 10.26mm
ISO 200

Dema, I really like your image. The Lightroom/Photoshop editing you really improved its appeal to me. I like saturated images. Also in this case, it appears you have also opened up the shadows as well.

Presumably, you have used the rule of thirds to position your subject as well as cropping out the bright area in the upper left of the original.

So what can you do to this photo to improve it. Well IMO, not much, except if you want to try some speacial effects.

Thanks, Don. Yes, it is abiding by the rule of thirds. If there were trees on the left instead of that paved area I might have tried for a center composition, but after cropping off that paved area, the 3rds comp seemed to be the best choice. I'm not averse to using either.

I guess it depends on what "special effects" you mean. As you know, I'm not usually open to things like sky replacements, and I typically stay away from things like the Topaz painterly effects. I usually try to keep my images more realistic looking than that. (I'm not dead set against sky replacements, but when I do I let it be known that it was not the "real" scene that I saw)   Posted: 08/07/2022 12:48:59

I was referring to things like an oil painting etc. In other words, an effect that would take the photo to an entirely different place. As a photograph, there is nothing I can suggest to improve it. You nailed it.   Posted: 08/07/2022 13:32:22

Hi Drema. What a nice peaceful picture this is. I like how you've pulled up the highlights around the gazebo (in our country we might call it a band rotunda, depending on its size). I would quite like to see the roof and highlights/shadows of the gazebo to be even a little more brighter, yet not too bright. Nice one.   Posted: 08/08/2022 01:49:23
