About the Image(s)

Well... I had the drone fixed for a few days. Thought I would visit one of my favorites stops on my weekly State College, PA-to-Stamford, CT drive. This is at Turtle Beach, part of the Delaware Water Gap recreational area. You can get down close to the water and I thought this would be a nice place for good fall foliage reflections.

So everything is going well and I'm getting some nice video and I see the graffiti on the far left and thought maybe I'll fly over that direction. Still trying to keep my straight on shot. At that point of the beach however, it was all water and mud, so I stayed where I was and that's the beauty of the drone, it can go where you can't.

Well... because of either the sun, or my bad eyes, I lost sight of the drone, which wasn't that far away from me. But it must have hit a tree limb that was sticking farther out than the trees, and down it went into the water.

So... long story short, some extremely muddy pants, shoes and socks, and at one point I thought I was going to be full-on submersed into the creek... I retrieved the drone. Lost a propeller set, but it was still on, lights flashing and battery running. Got home, got the card out, battery off, let it dry out as much as possible. It still turns on now... and connects to the RC and the phone, but it won't calibrate... I may have run out of lives for this drone.

Anyway, enjoy the reflection! The original image and the edited image are from a still, not from the video. I haven't been able to look at any of the stats from the flight yet. Camera settings: JPEG, 1/40 sec at f/2.6, ISO 200

Nice colors. Great time watching the video. Impressed with the camera. With some cloning out of the stuff you don't like, this is wall worthy. Good luck with repairs or replacement.   Posted: 11/03/2021 14:07:13

Thanks Bob. I wish there was fish or something in the video lol. I haven't decided what to do with the Spark. I guess it's time for a new one... but can't decide which one to get. I assume by your wall-worthy comment that you listened to that podcast I emailed to everyone? Any other comments on that?   Posted: 11/21/2021 16:30:52

I commented on the You Tube video. I'm again discouraged from buying a drone, but more power to you!!! Agree the still is wall worthy

Hi Ron! thanks for visiting our group! I didn't see your comment on the video on YouTube, but thanks for watching it. I'm just amazed that it kept recording the entire time. Don't be discouraged from buying a drone, when it works, it's a lot of fun. The accident was totally my fault, lots to learn and remember and pay attention to. Hope to see you here again next month!   Posted: 11/21/2021 16:33:09

Lisa,
Until I read your description, I assumed you had uploaded a non-drone image. :-)

You did a very good job of cropping, and enhancing the image. Too bad you damaged or destroyed your drone. Now that the Mavic 3 is out, there may be some great deals on earlier Mavics.   Posted: 11/17/2021 22:22:15

I'll take that as a compliment, that you thought it was a non-drone image. It was just high enough to get closer to the line of trees over the water. If I had a ladder, I may have been able to get to that height. I haven't looked at the details of the shot yet. Hope I'll be able to get all that info.
Mavic 3? or Mavic Air? or Mavic mini? lol   Posted: 11/21/2021 16:35:29

Hi Lisa, sorry about your drone. I understand your pain, I have had that helpless feeling myself. Your image is beautiful, I love the colors and composition. The reflections are great. The left side bothers me a little as I don't think it adds to the image. I think that just a small bit could be cropped out. I think I would like to see the letters cloned out as well. By the way, I had a similar incident but my drone showed no signs of life, I sold it for parts on eBay.   Posted: 11/19/2021 06:25:30

Hi Lou, the pain is real lol. Funny that if I didn't like the graffiti on the left side, maybe I wouldn't have crashed the drone! Which drone did you sell for parts? Do you have a working drone now? I'm still deciding on which one to get...hope to decide soon!   Posted: 11/21/2021 16:37:25

The drone I sold is a Mavic Pro. I now have a Mavic Pro Platinum, basically the same as the damaged one. I also have a Mavic 2 with the Hasselblad camera. This is silly but I rarely use the Mavic 2 as I am afraid of losing it or something like that. DJI benefited from my stimulus dollars.   Posted: 11/22/2021 07:02:36

Hey Lou... I was hoping to buy the Mavic 2 Pro, but it isn't in stock anymore, probably going to be discontinued. It's not silly... I'd like to get the new Mavic 3, but I'd be afraid to use it and lose it! I may get the DJI Air 2S... it's also about half the price of the Mavic 3... we'll see how good Santa is going to be to me this year lol.   Posted: 11/28/2021 16:19:41
